Optimum adjustment to fit the body is a key requirement for Porsche quality, because even the second skin has to fit like a bespoke suit. Here, we are talking about millimetre precision.

An extensive range of measures has enabled the experts at Porsche Classic to achieve substantial improvements in the production quality of wings and side panels for the Porsche 911 (model years 1965 to 1994). This also means that, for the first time, it has been possible to reissue the thin sheet metal panels for the legendary 911 Carrera RS 2.7. In total, just 1,580 of these vehicles were manufactured in 1972 and 1973.

Porsche Classic redefined every single production step to ensure a lasting improvement to the parts’ dimensional accuracy that would make it easier to adjust the parts to fit the vehicle. The original series production tools were redesigned and optimised, and new testing devices were introduced to ensure dimensional accuracy. For example, each of the 30-odd wing variants was fitted on a vehicle or testing device as a trial. Every process step – including the time-consuming manual surface finishing work – was also documented to ensure consistent quality. Porsche Classic is sending out a clear message that the enthusiasts’ vehicles have lost none of their value – the reissued Porsche Classic Genuine Parts proudly display the Porsche trademark.
